My #1 anti-AI AI rule
There's this one ultimate rule that I've been following when working with AI for work (AI literacy and expertise are pretty much required now 😬).
Don't use generative AI for warm outreach (talking to a friend, a workmate, a client; making an announcement)
The next thing is you gotta write how you wanna write. You gotta write pretty close to how you actually talk (minus the filler words, or not).
You don't want AI to sound like you, because if it keeps doing so, you'll end up sounding like AI.
Why?
A major part of who you are and your identity, one that can grow over time and evolve, is your voice.
And every time you outsource that to AI, you lose a bit of it. I see it a lot in LinkedIn posts: diminishing personas blending into an amalgamation of a multiheaded blob monster with one voice.
This is not an anti-AI post
As much as one would like to avoid using AI too much, there is a sense of irresponsibility in ignoring it as an advantage in completing tiresome, repetitive tasks.
AI has a place in a well-functioning society.
I'd argue, tho, that it would be best to leave AI at work and continue doing art with your hands and heart.
And if work is art for you then keep it as personal as possible.
Our world is different tho.
Even way before AI filled in the gaps, even way before AI was presented as the perfect misdirection for people's anger and hatred, corrupt capitalism and the 1 percent have always existed.
They have created fire (or stolen it).
Yeah. They stole it.
But they've intentionally driven most of us mad at the fire that they've stolen, so we don't, can't, won't build the fire that can go against them.
Sure, be angry, but not at the thing that they've built. Be angry at them or the idea that they stand for (the latter would be better since it transcends personalities and identities, prolly making the hate future-proof 🤷).
Of course, there will always be mavericks, and you'll see them if you look.
