For the love of Markdown, I made a thing that you might also like ๐
๐ I Made a Thing! (And You Might Actually Love It)
My Markdown Obsession Story ๐
Okay, so I've always been obsessed with Markdown โ which is probably why I'm living my best life in Bear and probably why my Obsidian is an absolute chaotic mess of random notes everywhere ๐
Like, there's something so satisfying about the pure simplicity of it all! But real talk... when I first started? It was kinda intimidating! The learning curve was real, and most interfaces felt like they were designed by developers, for developers (no shade โ I am one too! ๐จโ๐ป).
๐ค The struggle: Finding something that doesn't make beginners want to run away screaming was... hard.
I only stuck with it because I'm a total sucker for that clean IDE aesthetic. Plus, you know, IT degree from Foundation University and all that jazz! But what about everyone else who just wants to take nice notes without feeling like they need a computer science degree?
So... I Built Something! ๐
Meet .nomd โ my little love letter to anyone who wants to dip their toes into the Markdown world without drowning in features they don't need (yet).
Why a Web App Though? ๐
- Zero commitment โ no downloads, no sign-ups, no "please create an account" nonsense
- Works in any Chromium browser (which... let's be honest, you probably already have)
- Just click and start typing! โจ
Think Google Keep... But Make It Markdown! ๐ฑโก๏ธ๐
Here's the vibe I was going for:
It's like Google Keep's cooler, more private cousin who speaks Markdown fluently!
What makes it awesome? โญ
- All the simplicity of Google Keep but with Markdown superpowers
- No account needed โ seriously, just open it and go
- Your notes = YOUR notes โ everything stays on your computer, never uploaded anywhere ๐
- Stripped away all the overwhelming stuff that makes beginners panic
- Just the good stuff that makes note-taking actually fun
๐๏ธ Random fun fact: The
.nomd
kinda sound like "nomad" (which I think is pretty cool for notes that travel with you!) but also... "no markdown" if you say it wrong ๐ The irony is not lost on me!
The Real Talk ๐ฌ
This whole project was inspired by this very blog and my endless need to build things that past-me would've absolutely loved. You know that feeling when you find a tool that just clicks? That's what I'm hoping this becomes for someone out there.
It sits in that perfect sweet spot where it's not too basic (looking at you, plain text editors) but also not so feature-heavy that you need a manual to figure out how to make a bullet point.
Let's Chat! ๐ค
If you end up trying it out, I'd genuinely love to hear what you think! Good, bad, "omg this is exactly what I needed," or "you missed the mark completely" โ all feedback is gold to me.
Shoot me an email if you've got thoughts, questions, or just want to geek out about note-taking apps! ๐ง
Now go forth and take some beautifully formatted notes! ๐โจ
P.S. โ Yes, this entire post was written in Markdown. Because of course it was! ๐
